expected three or four games later. Second, at least for youth players, a minor additional incentive pays big dividends. I devised a separate scoring system that rewarded all important skills: for example, give and go passing might get 10 points, connecting three passes 5 points, etc. I was astonished at the enthusiasm the players showed for this system. This actually turned a losing season into a big success as the players eagerly looked forward to these scores during each game. Adults might need soamething more private or personal, perhaps keeping track of how often they successfully use the new skill and reporting progress at the next lesson. Thanks for doing these great podcasts. I’ve just discovered them and am catching up on the old ones.

During 15 years of coaching youth soccer I often experienced frustration with my players not putting in the execution skill and the tactics that we had practiced extensively.
